weak-pulse. He checked her gunshot wounds: one shot hit her in the shoulder
a second was a flesh wound in her neck. "Take it easy you'll be all right."
Jeff placed a tourniquet on her shoulder to stop the hemorrhaging as he
hitched her arm across her chest in a sling. He noticed the two men who
were shooting at each other were sill alive, apparently the gunshots were not
fatal. Probably the bullets caused flesh-wounds. Her pulse-rate stabilized and
her respiration was normal considering her wounds. Applied pressure
decreased the blood flow from the area of bleeding. "Don't talk too much,
so that you'll conserve your energy."
He observed her physical characteristics that apparently showed she
was young, possibly thirty-one to thirty-three, compared to the population
of Los Angeles that included many senior citizens. Younger people escaped to
less crowded population areas, while only the more mobile senior citizens
relocated. Medical crises were normal for Los Angeles given the intolerable environmental conditions, overpopulation, and airpolution. "How are you?"
She watched Jeff's administrations, apparently satisfied
with his skill."Thanks to you, I am feeling better. I was fter that man who shot me.
The other man and I are detectives from the special environmental-unit. The criminal
was a fire-starter, we have been tracking for three months. The leads finally
identified him as the culprit, but this dam traffic hindered our chase."
Jeff noticed a gold-badge that apparently fell-out of her jacket-pocket with her
name: Det. Sargent P. Dempsey, SEU.
"My name is Pat, what's your's?"
    "My name is Jeff Gordon."
An ambulance-siren sounded probably summoned by a call from someone's
cellular phone. "I'11 go with you to the hospital," reassured Jeff, "by following
the ambulance."
"That's terrific; we also need a witness."
Her partner was getting out of his car, noticed Jeff, and then the second officer
probably called the ambulance. He had the suspect in the police car, probably handcuffed while Jeff was stopping the bleeding. Efficient police, those SEUs,although Jeff was unfamiliar with that special unit, The paramedics interrupted Jeff's thoughts as they brought over a stretcher to carry Pat to the ambulance, which contained an advanced life support system that he observed as he entered the ambulance.
"We'll take over from here Doctor."
"I'11 follow you to the hospital. Once I start my car. "
The second detective also returned to his car to radio for a tow-truck for officer Dempsey's car. Jeff followed the ambulance to Mercy Hospital, while the second detective
waited for the tow. Traffic began to move again, with the direction of several  Next Page
